Tefta Haxhi Bushka will read excerpts from her memoir, Memory Nights: A Multi-generational Family Story from Albania to America, on May 2, from 6-7 pm.  Books will be available for purchase. Light refreshments will be available.  Admission will be $10 per person and will go towards the Tefta Bushka Literary Scholarship Award.

The memoir focuses on the experiences of her family’s journey as refugees as they challenge adversity and navigate the challenges of leaving communist Albania for a new home in the early 1950s.  The journey might not be glamorous or sensational, but honest and genuine. It is a story of a human being who faced the worst times and found the best in themselves and others. It is a tale of hope, courage, and love transcending borders, cultures, and languages. With her extensive experience teaching English, Tefta offers a unique perspective on the power of language and communication in the lives of those who have been displaced. Her hope is to inspire and celebrate the journeys of others who have had to leave their homes behind and start anew in a foreign land. This story will encourage others to find the strength in their struggles, the joy in their triumphs, and the inspiration in the power of resilience.
