Lafayette Returns to America! It was one of the biggest events in US history. 200 years ago, Lafayette was invited to return for an “Farewell Tour of America” by President James Monroe as the last living Major General of the American Revolution. As the “Guest of the Nation“ he was celebrated for 13 months across 6,000 miles in all 24 states of the nation.

Learn from Susan Joy Minker, the Co-Chair of the kick off of the Bicentennial of Lafayette’s Farewell Tour of  America who is a Daughter of the American Revolution and distant cousin of Lafayette, about Lafayette’s contribution to our nation and humanity. His unique story as a staunch abolitionist, proto-feminist and friend of the Native Americans is both heart warming and relevant today. He and his family gave up their vast wealth, and some their lives, to fight for liberty for all. Learn how you can participate in the Bicententennial  celebrations kicking off on August 15th in New York City as the American Friends of Lafayette historically re-enact as much of the Farewell Tour over the next 13 months too!

Fun fact: Learn how Lafayette saved the island of Nantucket, and how they thanked him!
